Yahoo! goes Green

with one comment

Y! has recently joined the green bandwagon. Its new site at http://green.yahoo.com educates, has news and views and reviews and allows you to calculate your carbon footprint and take action. It also looks like http://earth.yahoo.com is where most of the content came from for now and Y! converted what was an event into a feature.

With this Y! joins an already present bunch of companies which have been doing something like this for the past 1-2 years – chief among them are: www.terrapass.com and www.climatecrisis.net. The later is built around the “oscar” winning The Inconvenient Truth. There are a few others which are already out and a couple that we are getting involved with.

It will be interesting to watch if Y! has an interesting model that leverages its mammoth reach and creates excitement and buzz (like Answers) OR if it ends up becoming just another little thing that Y! does (like 360).

What about Y!’s own footprint, you ask? David Filo addressed that here on April 17th, presumably in advance of the launch of the green site. Interestingly, it does not address green, but gives you links to a bunch of places where you can do the stuff that is now being offered at green.

So you think that you can help Y! go green. Check out our job listings or on Y! Jobs/career builder  - they are looking to hire a Managing Editor/Executive Producer for Yahoo! Green.
